Somehow, some way, X-Men: Days of Future Past works. The whole plot is the epitome of a summer blockbuster that could fall apart if scrutinized too much, but given the history of this franchise and what this film needs to accomplish, I can forgive most of it since everything else works so well and you are meant to fully suspend disbelief for this type of film. This truly feels like a complete reboot of the X-men franchise for a post-Avengers world of multi-superhero universes. When the original X-men was released in 2000, no one could have predicted that these films would still be as lucrative as they are 14 years and 7 films later, let alone that it would be released as the 3rd Marvel film of the past 8 weeks that would open to more than $90 million. Days of Future Past simultaneously ignores and embraces the history of this franchise in order to acclimate to the new normal of superhero films and somehow these opposing goals come together to make the film my favorite of the entire series.
